You can donate to one charity or both – it’s entirely up to you (I’m donating equally to both). Either way, both charities draw on separate funds for administration, so all of your money is going to research. Also, both are happy to handle small amounts so there’s no need to wait to donate. Little and often!
Giving online
One of the easiest ways to give is via the JustGiving website, used by over 8,000 UK charities. Each charity has a main Justgiving page for Just Four Quid (see the links under “DONATE!” in the righthand sidebar).
You can also set up your own personal page on Justgiving for Just Four Quid very easily and several people have done so, including me (scroll down the righthand sidebar for links). It makes it easy to follow your own progress over the year when you put on your own donations and when friends and family donate, it’s easier for you to notice. Instructions on how to do this are below.
Giving by mail
If you or any of your supporters prefer not to donate online, you can mail cheques, postal orders or details for credit/debit card payments to the charities.
Ramsay Research Fund: Please use the special JFQ RRF donation form.
ME Research UK: Please use the MERUK donation form and write “JFQ” prominently at the top of the form so that MERUK can place the funds in the correct account.
Giving by phone
You can also give by credit or debit card over the telephone to the charities’ offices. Don’t forget to say it’s for JFQ!
Ramsay Research Fund: Tel. 01280 818964, 10.00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays.
ME Research UK: Tel. 01738 451234, 9.00 a.m. to 4.30 p.m. on weekdays.
Creating your own JustGiving page for Just Four Quid
Please note that you can’t support both charities through a single page! They don’t have a joint account. If you want to support both, you’ve got to make two pages.
To create a page, you just have to register a few details and then a page pops up that allows you to create a title, put your own photo on and write some blurb. You can re-edit it at any time as often as you like so there’s no need to wait until you’ve got the perfect photo or text. Once your page is created, you can send out a link to it via email and there’s also a Justgiving Facebook application for those with Facebook accounts.
Creating a page doesn’t take long, but please follow carefully these instructions:
Ramsay Research Fund: You’ll end up with a page that looks a bit like my RRF page. The ME Association, despite their best efforts, couldn’t get a specific Ramsay Research Fund account onto Justgiving in time for the launch of JFQ so you’ll see that the MEA logo appears on my page and their main campaign page; however, like all pages that specify themselves in their titles as part of Just Four Quid, the money goes to the Ramsay Research Fund.
But there’s now an RRF account set up on Justgiving so use the Ramsay Research Fund pagebuilding page and carry on from there. When you have your page, for your title please put “JFQ Fred Bloggs’s Ramsay Research Fund page” like my example. This will identify you as part of JFQ and ensure that your money goes into the correct account. Then add a photo, some blurb, maybe put four quid on to encourage others, and you’re off!
ME Research UK: You’ll end up with a page that looks a bit like my MERUK page. To set up your page, go to the MERUK pagebuilding page and carry on from there. When you have your page, for your title please put “JFQ Fred Bloggs’s ME Research UK page” like my example. This will identify you as part of JFQ and ensure that your money goes into the correct account. Then add a photo, some blurb, maybe put four quid on to encourage others, and you’re off!
