Maybe you are worried about superglueing your ear to the table and would rather buy cards cheaply than risk ending up in A&E. Fair enough; with a bit of forward planning, there are relatively cheap but still lovely cards to be had.
It all comes down to multipacks, basically. Even WH Smith, my personal bugbear for £2.50 rip-off cards, has packs of 10 cards (without a message inside) for £3.99 upwards (i.e. 40p per card). They are really attractive, come in lots of different styles and are as big as normal cards. Some of the packs have more than one design so that you have a bit of flexibility in choosing the right card for the right person.
WHS is not the only show in town, of course – plenty of other High Street shops have multipacks (as does Ebay, of course). Also, don’t forget that notelets often serve well as greetings cards and are usually very good value – they may be packaged as gifts but they are just multipacks in disguise.
If you don’t fancy making your own cards and multipacks don’t appeal, then another alternative is to pay a higher price but to buy from a business that gives a cut to our charities. The Ramsay Research Fund doesn’t have such cards but MERUK has some available on its site. You can find cards made by people with ME/CFS supporting MERUK or cards from the Greetings Card Company that give MERUK a cut.
Money I’ve raised today: £2.30 (I have found a photo for my dad’s birthday card which I can make for 15p); added to my MERUK page
Money I’ve raised so far: £134.85
