We’re famous on Justgiving.com!

A bit of a thrill – Tony Britton, our publicity guy, has just emailed to tell me that Justgiving.com have featured us on their newsblog. How exciting!

They’ve forgotten to mention MERUK (oops) but still!

I think this publicity may arise from a gut-wrenching mistake I made when I was setting up my Justgiving page. Before we launched, I set up my MERUK personal Justgiving page and emailed my friends to ask for donations of £4 to launch me on my fundraising year. They generously sent lots of donations and put some really lovely messages to go with them. A couple of evenings later, I went onto the site to set up my RRF page. I messed it up and deleted it (I thought) and went back to look at my lovely MERUK page. I had deleted it! With all my lovely messages!

I was so upset I couldn’t sleep that night – the money of course was safely already en route to MERUK but all the messages! When you delete a Justgiving page, a box pops up saying “Are you sure you want to delete this page? Once deleted, it can never be restored!” I thought I was doomed.

I phoned Justgiving first thing the next morning, explained what I’d done and begged for the page to be retrieved. I explained it was an example page for a big campaign that was about to launch the following week and how awful it would be if I couldn’t have it back.

The lovely Justgiving bloke instantly restored it and asked what the campaign was about. I explained about the save-to-give idea and the blog and he said he really liked the idea and wanted to put it forward to be covered on the Justgiving news. And now it has been! One worthwhile sleepness night, there. Thank you, lovely Justgiving bloke!

Probably some sort of moral there but probably a bit too technical for an illustrated children’s book. Anyway, all’s well that ends well/a midsummer night’s dream/a stitch in time saves nine, etc.
